Dunedin Heritage Festival, 2009
The Trust’s contribution to the Festival included talks by Christchurch artist Wayne Seyb and Caselberg Trustee Alan Roddick. Alan, who is Brasch’s literary executor, recalled how the writer Charles Brasch had come to buy a holiday cottage at Broad Bay in 1961. When he died in 1973 Brasch left the cottage to John Caselberg, who later was able to buy the next-door property – which is today’s Caselberg House.
Wayne then discussed, from the viewpoint of a fellow-artist, the work of his longtime friend Anna Caselberg, with examples drawn from his own collection of her paintings. His talk revealed Anna’s deep feeling for the Harbour landscape, and her dedication to capturing its forms and colours in paint.
2 Poetry-Writing Workshops - Michael Harlow, Burns Fellow, Inaugural Resident, Caselberg House
In March and November, 2009 Michael Harlow gave two superb Poetry Writing Workshops, as part of the Caselberg in the Community Programme. Held in the Art workshop Studio, Michael created a wonderfully fertile place of learning for us all. He taught us, amongst the many things that related to technique, about the importance of keeping our words surprising, to listen to the musicality in our writing and to trust the subconscious. Inspiring stuff! These were 2 very special days, and the Trust is grateful to Michael for his wonderful generosity of spirit.
